IT is an anti drug program that is pushed in middle school here... Usually there is an officer at the school that talks about the dangers of drugs. They drive police cars that say DARE on them.... It is a big deal WH....maybe they don't let that happen in Texas...

...but yes rose is correct, apparently is only a state by state thing. had no idea that some states didn't use this

pretty sure the reagan administration (nancy) started the dare programon a federal level in response to the cocaine craziness of the 80's---it just grew into an umbrella for all drugs after a while---think many states have since dropped it as funding was redirected and dried up

D.A.R.E. is a joke. In Mn, when communities cut the program, due to cost, R.J.Reynolds (Big Tobacco) picked up the funding....they gave campaign contributions to anyone who challenged a legislator who correctly called the program worthless.

i thought i read an article a while back that said DARE took pot off of their list of drugs..because " it was misleading kids based on lies"
they figured that the kids would think they were lieing about all drugs. IT would do more harm than good

I remember being a teen and there was a DARE event in the town I lived in. Me and my friends decided to go to it and just be total buttholes. :) I still remember the look on the one cops face when I asked him if DARE stood for Drugs Are Really Expensive. :D All of us got frisked and asked to leave. LOL. My wife graduated from this bull program when she was a kid out in AZ. She of course knows it is all bull now. It is a shame they get to brain wash the children who don't know better.

it was a program to basically get your kids to snitch on you, and how proud they will be as a snitch. they don't teach them that they will never see their parents again. they teach this crap in elementary school here.
